A cashmere sweater. A crackling fire. A bourbon on the rocks. These are a few of the coziest things a man can enjoy—and like them, the best winter colognes for men will surround you with warming, rousing, and comforting notes.
Whether you want the solace of gourmand notes (edible scents, such as cocoa or vanilla) or something mischievous and mysterious, you’ll find it among the fragrances below. Each offers something complementary to the season. Some warm the spirits, others encourage curiosity (of the “What are you wearing?” variety), but they all smell sensational.
-
Ormonde Jayne Kashmir
This medley of deodar wood, myrrh, iris, and cashmeran beautifully conjures the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas over Kashmir. Ormonde Jayne describes its masterpiece as “mesmeric” and “mythical,” which perfectly summarizes the stirring and transportive nature of this EDP.

Marc-Antoine Barrois Ganymede Extrait
Ground yourself—and those around you—with this sage scent. Peppery akigalawood, myrrh, and incense power the extrait, which the eponymous perfumer and clothier enhances with citrus and caramel notes. These give it a gourmand quality that is at once bold and profoundly comforting.
-
Korres Black Pepper EDT
It’s high time to stop sleeping on Korres’s fragrance offerings, many of which are just as good as its all-natural skincare. Let’s call this one “Greece does winter”: It feels as refreshing and breezy as you’d expect from those isles, but with enough bite and breeze to warrant wearing an extra layer. Its titular black pepper note plays nicely with cashmeran, lavender, cedar, and amber.
-
Les Bains Guerbois 1979 New Wave EDP
This one feels cold—nay, it feels cool. This blend of mint, musk, and metallic notes is an olfactory ode to the night that Joy Division played at the Les Bains Paris nightclub in 1979. We told you it was cool. (And so are all of the scents from LBG, which calls on the French masters new and storied to tell its star-studded history.)
-
Krigler Villa Isar 224 Parfum
Ben Krigler really said “hold my beer” to the gourmand movement: Villa Isar 224 is as deliciously drinkable as it gets. It blends honey, cocoa, almond, cream, licorice, caramel, vanilla, tonka bean, but it’s not so overbearing that it’ll turn you off by midday.
-
Tom Ford Bois Pacifique EDP
Frankincense, turmeric, oakwood, and sandalwood give Bois Pacifique a mature, wise stance, it smells like a towering redwood that’s endured hundreds of years of the Pacific winds. It’s suitable for perennial wear for an appropriately sage wearer, but the rest of you should save it for the moments when you want to to summon its warm, reassuring air.
-
Maison Louis Marie No.04 Bois de Balincourt EDP
Vetiver, amberwood, and sandalwood give this best-selling scent its earthy expression. It’s one of my year-round favorites. But I find it wears best in winter—it feels like a forest bath as well as winter in Miami, both refreshing and introspective all at once.
-
Maison d’Etto Rotano EDP
Rotano wears like an expensive leather jacket, and is every bit as classic, sexy, and mysterious. This note register is hit after hit: Suede, cedar, resin, myrhh, leather, cypriol, and musk. It’s undeniably masculine—confidence distilled in a bottle.
-
Mind Games Mentor Extrait
Mentor is one half of Mind Games’ gourmand 2024 Perfumer Extraordinaire launch, and boy is it a treat: In addition to the boya oud and amber that give it universal wearability, Mentor also touts salted caramel, coffee, tonka, and dark plum. Each purchase comes with small vials of those amber and boya oud oils, so you can punch up their pronunciation (or wear them on their own) as you see fit.
-
Kilian Paris Angels’ Share EDP
This cocktail mixes cognac, oak, tonka, and cinnamon for an imminently drinkable expression. It’s become a cult classic among men’s fragrance enthusiast—a masculine gourmand that feels confident, sexy, and top-shelf.
