FAA ‘Equipment Outage’ Snarls Flights at Newark Airport

Air travel into the New York City area is being delayed due to what is being described by airport officials as an “FAA equipment outage.”

A red banner at the top of the Newark Liberty International Airport (KEWR) informational page cautions travelers that arrivals and departures are currently delayed and recommends they check with the airlines for the status of their flights.

The FAA states the agency is “slowing arrivals and departures at Newark Liberty International Airport (KEWR) in New Jersey after telecommunications and equipment issues at Philadelphia TRACON, which guides aircraft in and out of KEWR.”

The agency notes the earlier issues have been resolved, “but now there are staffing issues at Philadelphia TRACON. For the latest airport updates, visit our National Airspace System Status website.”
