Karla Sofía Gascón’s Anti-Islam Posts Resurface

Anti-Islam posts by Karla Sofía Gascón have resurfaced amid her Oscars race.

As the star of Emilia Pérez, Karla made as the first openly trans actor to be nominated for Best Actress at the awards. Indeed, she has spoken times — including onstage at the — about the importance of trans rights.

Now, as journalist noted on X, Karla appears to still have a number of anti-Islam posts on the social media site from the past decade. In one 2016 , she called the religion “a hotbed of infection for humanity that urgently needs to be cured.”

In 2021, she that “the West should ban Islam.” In 2023, she responded to an anti-LGBTQ+ post by , “Put on a burka.”

A source close to the Academy told BuzzFeed that Karla’s posts on X do not constitute a violation of their campaign rules as they do not involve another film or nominee.
