A man is hitting the brakes when it comes to driving his wife anywhere.
The husband explained on Reddit’s “Am I the A——” forum that he’s “done” being behind the wheel whenever they’re in the car together after his wife recently asserted that he drives “like a moron.”
“For years, after we got married, I could never figure out why I would be so angry and moody anytime my wife and I went somewhere. Then it finally clicked,” he wrote. “I was only in a bad mood if I drove with my wife. My wife is the absolute worst back seat driver I have ever seen.”

Honing in on specifics, the husband listed some of his wife’s repeated gripes: “ ‘Why did you go this way? If you would of went that way we would be there by now! You’re driving too fast! You’re driving too slow! You could of made that light! That light was red and you blew through it!’ ”
“ ‘Can you brake any harder idiot!?’ ” he added. “ ‘There were 17 great parking spots and you had to choose parking spot 18 … You turned your blinker on too late! You turned your blinker on too early! Why are you accelerating so slowly? Whoa! Was it necessary to accelerate that quickly?’ ”
As a solution for the past couple of years, he refused to drive her anywhere and made her do all of the driving for errands and trips.
“Lo and behold, [I was] no longer a grumpy person when we travel,” he noted, so recently, he decided to give driving another shot after she requested that they split driving duties evenly moving forward.

However, this mutual arrangement quickly hit a roadblock.
“Last weekend I started driving — she couldn’t even last 3 minutes without criticizing my driving. I pulled over and told her I’m done,” he recalled. “She eventually took the wheel as she muttered that I drive like a moron, even though there’s only one of us who has any tickets and has at-fault accidents on their record and it’s not me.”
Concerned that he might be overreacting, the husband asked fellow Redditors, “Am I the a—— for refusing to drive if she’s present?”

His March 26 post has garnered more than 700 comments, with the general consensus being that he’s “NTA (not the a——).”
Some readers couldn’t get over the wife’s name-calling. One wrote, “Contempt is a relationship killer. And the way his wife talks to him seeps with contempt. Each time is a blow to their relationship and after a while, cracks appear and without repair, the relationship breaks apart.”
Driving aside, another Redditor suggested that the woman described in the post “needs some therapy or anger management, sheesh.”
