MIAMI — Furniture may not be at the top of the discount list for Black Friday, but there are still deals to be had, according to WalletHub analysis of retailer ads for the post-Thanksgiving shopping day.
WalletHub, which reviewed more than 4,300 Black Friday deals from 13 of the largest retailers, found Macy’s is offering the deepest discounts within the furniture category, with items marked down an average of about 53%.
Other retailers listed among the tops for furniture discounts on Black Friday include Walmart (50%), Target (43%), Home Depot (41%) and BJ’s (35%). Also cited by WalletHub were Amazon (25%), Costco (24%) and Newegg (16%).
While noting that the best Black Friday deals can translate to big savings for consumers, Chip Lupo, WalletHub analyst, added, “When you are bombarded by ads and there are so many places to shop, it can be hard to decide where to actually spend your money. Knowing which retailers actually offer significant deals compared to their normal prices can save you a lot of time and prevent buyer’s remorse.”
Looking across the board of all categories tracked, Lupo said the stores offering the best deals this year are JCPenney, Belk and Macy’s.
By category, computers and phones account for the highest concentration of discounted items (29%), although that category ranks last in terms of average discount at 26%. Furniture, which makes up just more than 4% of the discount concentration, is fourth in terms of biggest discounts at 36%, on average.
The deepest discounts will be found in the jewelry category, which is averaging 60%, according to WalletHub research. Apparel and an “all other” category also rank above furniture for highest average amount off this Black Friday.
