Robb Recommends: The Ultra-Rich Moisturizer Designed to Get Us All Through Winter

Welcome to Robb Recommends, a regular series in which our editors and contributors endorse something they’ve tried and loved—and think will change your life for the better.

Because I have very, very, very oily skin, I’ve always been afraid of using richer moisturizers, even when winter’s dry air makes my face feel tight and look flaky.

But of late, several skin care companies have released deeply hydrating creams they swear the highly sebaceous among us can use. Skinbetter Science’s Trio Luxe Moisture Treatment is one of the best I’ve tried. Somehow, it’s both rich and noncomedogenic, and it’s helped me tolerate not only the bitter New York City climate this winter, but also using harsher actives such as prescription tretinoin and Vitamin C.

The lotion, packaged in a stylish navy blue and gold dispenser, gets its name from working on three axes: Its ingredients are designed to replenish dehydrated skin, help the skin attract and retain moisture, and improve barrier function. (That last one is a fancy way of saying it helps your skin defend itself.)

I’ve been using it for a few months now, and I’ve found that it goes on thick but blends in smoothly. A little of it goes a long way—which is good news, considering it’s only available in a 50ml size. I can cover my entire face and even a little of my neck with just one pump. It’s also filled with a variety of beneficial and skin-identical ingredients that people who care about their skin will recognize—including niacinamide and glycerin—as well as ones they might not, like the deeply hydrating hydrolyzed sodium hyaluronate.

One thing to watch out for: If you use this product on top of a serum, it might pill—even if you do the due diligence of letting it absorb fully first. But Trio Luxe is so moisturizing, you might not even need to use another hydrating product with it anyway.
