For the second year in a row, the Mexico City hot spot been crowned No. 1 on the list of the 50 best in North America. The continent’s 50 Best Bars organization unveiled the 2025 rankings at its event in Vancouver on Tuesday evening.
Joining Handshake Speakeasy, which opened in 2023, at the top is New York’s Superbueno, which retained its hold on the No. 2 spot on the list since the previous year. The East Village locale also kept its title of the Best Bar in the U.S. Following behind are another Mexico City’s Tlecān at No. 3, moving up seven pegs compared to its spot on last year’s list, and New Orleans’s Jewel of the South at No. 4, jumping up two spots since 2024. Sip & Guzzle completes the top 5—a noteworthy entry, since it marks the New York watering hole’s debut on the 50 Best rankings.
The Big Apple bars had quite the shake-up on this year’s list. Home to 11 of the U.S. bars on the list, the city saw its Overstory bar fall three spots to No. 6; , meanwhile, dropped down the list to No. 19 from 2024’s No. 7 perch. , too, plummeted from No. 20 to No. 46, while vacated the list all together. It’s not all bad, though: , the new spot lounging above , entered the rankings at No. 11—not a huge surprise considering how has long been a darling to the organization.
Overall, the U.S. dominated the list, with 26 bars to its name. The rankings also feature 14 locations from Mexico, eight from Canada, and two from the Caribbean. Canada’s top bar is Bar Pompette in Toronto, which had a huge leap on the list from No. 29 to No. 7. As for the Caribbean, Grand Cayman’s Liberty by the Sea snagged the top honors there, sitting in the 30 spot in the overall rankings.
“This year’s list is a powerful testament to the relentless drive, creativity, and world-class talent that define the cocktail industry today,” Emma Sleight, head of content for North America’s 50 Best Bars, said in a statement. “These bars don’t just serve drinks—they set global standards, push boundaries, and shape the future of hospitality.”
Sounds a North American bar tour in order, then.
