This 2020 Vashon Ranger R7 Is a Light Sport ‘AircraftForSale’ Top Pick With Surprising Brawn

The Vashon Ranger has developed a following since its introduction in 2017. It represents what pilots often said they wanted in a light sport aircraft (LSA), according to John Torode, founder of Dynon avionics.

Torode got together with Ken Krueger, a longtime engineer with Van’s Aircraft, and the pair designed and developed the Ranger.

Somewhat famously, the company waited until it had built several airplanes before unveiling the new model. The move surprised the industry and caused a sensation among LSA shoppers accustomed to waiting years between an aircraft’s appearance at trade shows and its arrival in showrooms. Today the Ranger continues to appeal to pilots and flight schools seeking a balance of rugged utilitarianism and practicality.

This 2020 Vashon Ranger has 134 hours since new on the airframe, 100 hp Continental O-200-D engine, and composite fixed-pitch CATO propeller. The airplane is equipped with dual hydraulic toe brakes, adjustable rudder pedals, 600-6 tires, electric trim and flaps, five-point safety harnesses, cabin heat and defroster, aft baggage area, LED lights, 12-volt aux outlet, dual USB ports, and 28.1-gallon fuel capacity.

The panel features dual 10-inch SkyView HDX displays with backup batteries,  primary flight instruments, OAT, Skyview com radio, navigation and mapping, GPS/nav/com antennas, engine monitoring, SkyView two-axis autopilot with level button, and Mode S transponder with ADS-B In and Out.
