This Shark Air Purifier Erases the Bacon Smell from My House in an Hour After I Cook Breakfast

Here’s the story of how an air purifier made me love breakfast meats again.

That’s a major difference from most other air purifiers, which need new HEPA filters every six months to a year. The filter’s lifespan is maximized by the three layers of protection built around it.

The most important one is the DebrisDefense shield, which catches big particles like pet hair, dust, and lint. You can slide out and clean this pre-filter by rinsing or vacuuming it every month or whenever the Shark NeverChange alerts you. Past that, there’s a Pet Particle Barrier that catches dander and an Activated Carbon mesh layer that absorbs odors.

I’ve had mine running on auto mode — which adjusts its suction and output level based on the quality of the air — for about five weeks and haven’t needed to clean the DebrisDefense layer yet. The device has a sleek touchscreen display and a color-coded digital readout that gives you a real-time look at how clean the air is.

When I fried the bacon, and did the same with sausage the next weekend, the air purifier’s display turned red and it kicked into maximum power. While it worked I was able to steadily see (and smell!) its progress as the air quality reading improved. I also tested it against some cigar smoke, which always seeps into the house a bit around the interior garage door (much to my wife’s displeasure). I put the air purifier near the offending door and puffed away. There wasn’t a trace of scent inside the house when I was done.
