Trend Outlook: Accent rugs and Halloween decor score high

Back by popular demand, the Gifts & Decorative Accessories editorial team hosted their annual Trend Outlook webinar. Here’s what to know about the coming year.

It’s quite the buzzword in the gift and home industry — “trends.” Whether it be consumer trends, product trends or market trends, our industry seems to be obsessed with them, and for good reason. With a dizzying array of products and possibilities across numerous categories, it can be difficult to zero in on which products to invest in and highlight for the consumer. Sister pub Gifts & Decorative Accessories conducts an annual Gift Book Consumer Survey and then analyzes the data to create a list of product trend reports. The team then summarizes the results in their yearly Trend Outlook webinar.

In the latest webinar, hosted on Nov. 19, the team went through the nine biggest categories in the industry, including Fashion, Holiday, Candles, Home, Gourmet, Bath & Body, Stationery, Kids and Giftables, and gave a brief overview of some of the top trends and overarching topics within each category.

Of particular note is the rise of more polished apparel for the office, interest in welcome mats and accent rugs, demand for Halloween decor, and interest in candle vessels and clinical ingredients for bath and body products.
