What You’ll Find In Elon Musk’s Daily Diet

Have you ever wondered what the diet of the world’s richest person would look like? You might be inclined to think that it would mostly be an esoteric eating ensemble, full of five-star-restaurant-caliber meals full of rare and expensive ingredients. But if you were to take a closer look at what Elon Musk — who, as of April 2025, remains the wealthiest person on the planet — has said about his preferred foods and beverages, you might find them surprisingly relatable, if not a bit indulgent.

A lot of what we know about the billionaire business owner comes from his public statements on his social media platform, X. Let’s start with breakfast: In a 2024 tweet, Musk enthusiastically called his three-item breakfast (steak, eggs, and coffee) a “powerup.” While Musk enjoys a cup of joe in the morning, he has strong opinions about a latte (calling it “just an excuse for adults to order warm milk without sounding like a baby” in a 2023 tweet). A less nutritious component of his breakfast plate: a donut, which he once tweeted that he ate “every morning.” (Read this for other unhealthy food combinations you should always avoid.)

In general, it can be said that Musk likes high-protein foods and sweets. The best summation of his diet would perhaps be his statement in a 2020 episode of The Joe Rogan Experience: “I’d rather eat tasty food and live a shorter life.”

The (literal) meat and potatoes of Elon Musk’s diet

When it comes to main dishes, Elon Musk seems to prefer grilled or barbecued meat. He once stated on X that he “had the most amazing kebab ever” outside the now-defunct Tacheles art house in Berlin, Germany, and that döner kebab was his go-to treat whenever he’d visit the country. When asked about his favorite food in a 2015 Reddit “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) session, Musk replied that his top choices were French (likely, cuisine) and BBQ.

The SpaceX CEO is also known to enjoy a good steak even when it isn’t breakfast — and it looks like he enjoys it with an unconventional add-on: ssamjang, or fermented soybean paste with a spicy kick. “Elon Musk really likes our Ssamjang dry-aged beef,” revealed chef and restaurant owner Akira Back in a People interview.

On the fast food side of things, Musk is a self-professed pineapples-on-pizza enjoyer; by his own admission, he used to hate Hawaiian pizza in his younger years, but changed his preference over time. (Read this to know if people with diabetes should eat pineapple.) He also enjoys french fries, though the way he consumes them has been off-putting to some: As a viral photo revealed, instead of dipping his fries in ketchup, he pours the red stuff over the fries, like sauce.

When it comes to drinks and desserts, Elon Musk has a sweet tooth

Elon Musk’s donut-a-day claim is consistent with his love for pastries and baked goods, which he called “some of the great joys of life” in a tweet. He is also a fan of chocolate milk, sharing with his X followers that he once had an “insanely good” glass.

Many might wonder if there is a big difference between Coke Zero and Diet Coke, but it seems that for Musk, the latter is the only option. Just like his boss, Donald Trump, Musk is a die-hard Diet Coke fan; he once proudly proclaimed that he “will never quit DC” and called the inventor of Diet Coke “a genius.

Lastly, when it comes to beverages, coffee isn’t the only one that Musk enjoys. During the same Reddit AMA, he named whiskey as his preferred beverage. And while he admits that he does not really enjoy the effects or taste of alcohol, he does appreciate the beauty of “red wine in a fine glass.”
