- A woman, 37, said her husband, 40, is upset because she didn’t notice that he had overslept while she was getting ready for work
- The wife added that her husband swore at her, called her names and has been “short” with her ever since the incident
- She detailed her experience on Reddit, where several users said they think the husband exhibits “red flags”
A woman revealed that her husband has been “short” with her for several days after she didn’t wake him up when he overslept his alarm — but she isn’t convinced she did anything wrong.
The 37-year-old detailed her story on the Reddit “Am I the A——” forum on April 4 in order to get input from her fellow Redditors. In her post, she said she and her husband, 40, have been together for five years and that he isn’t “the greatest” at waking up on time.
“On occasion I have woken him up after his 10 alarms have gone off in the morning and he [still] decides to go back to sleep,” she wrote. “Most times, he eventually gets up on his own (although sometimes late) and I don’t have to think about it.”
The Reddit user explained that things went awry “a few mornings ago” when her husband failed to get up on time and she didn’t notice. She said that they both woke up at the same time — and even kissed good morning — so she assumed he was up for the day. However, later, after she had showered and blow-dried her hair, she said she found him still in bed.
“He angrily asked why I didn’t make sure he was up,” she said, to which she recalled replying, “I thought you were up. I didn’t exactly have time to check as I was showering and getting ready myself.”

The original poster (OP) shared that her husband responded by “swearing at me and calling me names,” telling her that she “should have noticed he wasn’t up.”
“I told him that I wasn’t his mother, and he wasn’t my son, that it’s not my responsibility to make sure he’s up on time for work,” she continued. “He mumbled something under his breath, which I assumed was just some nasty response.”
The OP said that her husband then left for work “without another word, a kiss or a hug goodbye ” and has been “short” with her ever since.
“Am I the a—— for not waking my husband up?” she asked the forum.
Redditors were quick to come to the woman’s defense. Not only did many tell her that she was in no way in the wrong in this situation, but a number of people said they consider her husband’s behavior completely unacceptable — and a potential red flag.

“NTA [not the a——],” one person replied. “He’s a grown man, he can wake himself up. … Personally, I would 100% stop waking him up. It’s a lose-lose situation because if he’s not all the way awake and falls back asleep after you wake him, he still lashes out at you, even though he’s the one with the problem. Hurling insults at you when he fell back asleep is extremely inappropriate.”

Another person commented, “He’s a big boy now, and fully responsible for getting up in time to go to work. Also, the name calling is completely out of line. That is an entirely other issue that you should not let go. NTA.”
“Huge red flags with him swearing at you and calling you names! I’d be questioning my whole marriage if that happened,” a third person wrote. “Don’t put up with that. From anyone. Ever. Let alone your husband.”
